Ingredients:
  • 1 package filo dough (16 oz), thawed
  • 1 ½ cups pistachios, chopped
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup honey
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground cloves

Filo dough can be found in the frozen section, while pistachios, honey, sugar, cinnamon, and ground cloves are in the pantry or spice aisles. Unsalted butter is available in the dairy section. For Middle Eastern specialties, pistachios and filo dough might also be available at local international markets.
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Step 2: Prepare the Nut Mixture
In a bowl, combine the chopped pistachios, sugar, cinnamon, and ground cloves.
Step 3: Layer the Filo Dough
Brush a 9x13-inch baking dish with melted butter. Layer 10 sheets of filo dough, brushing each with butter. Spread a layer of the nut mixture over the dough. Repeat with the remaining dough and nut mixture, finishing with a top layer of 10 buttered filo sheets.
Step 4 :Cut and Bake
Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into small squares or diamond shapes. Bake for 45 minutes, until golden and crisp.
Step 5: Make the Syrup
While the baklava bakes, heat honey in a small saucepan over low heat until warm. Drizzle the warm honey over the hot baklava once it’s out of the oven.
Step 6: Cool and Serve
Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
